Patient Services is mobile therapeutic apheresis and outpatient transfusion service. Whether providing therapeutic plasma exchange, cellular depletion procedures, component transfusions or peripheral stem cell collection, Patient Services offers an easy transition between provider and procedure.
Patient Services’ staff of registered nurses is supported by the resources of an organization that is recognized as a national leader in transfusion and transplantation medicine. Its comprehensive services include the 24-hour, seven-day-a-week availability of Blood Center physicians — all University of Washington professors and experts in transfusion medicine — for consultation.

Utilizing state-of-the-art apheresis equipment, patient services provides a variety of component therapies, including:
Replacement of patient’s plasma with sterile albumin solution or healthy plasma to remove pathogenic substances. Conditions treated by therapeutic plasma exchange include:
Removes harmful cells from a patient’s blood.
Conditions/complications treated with cellular depletion therapies:
Patient Services enables healthcare providers to avoid costly patient hospitalization for transfusion administration offering blood component transfusions (red cell, platelets and clotting factors) on an outpatient basis.
Patient Services offers peripheral blood stem cell collection, storage, and bedside delivery to patients undergoing autologous transplantation for malignant and non-malignant diseases. Collections can be performed in hospitals or at the Blood Center. Autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation is most commonly used for treatment of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma or Multiple Myeloma.
Through therapeutic erythrocytapheresis, defective red blood cells can be removed and substituted with healthy ones, alleviating complications associated with sickle cell anemia and other conditions.
Patient Services has the capability to collect autologous mononuclear cells, platelets, etc. for research use.
